“Get Real, Indiana!” is a coalition of organizations calling for medically accurate, age-appropriate, affirming sexuality curricula. Schools have an opportunity and an obligation to give young people information in a balanced manner that teaches abstinence plus facts about contraception, reproductive health, relationships and responsible decision-making. [From the Get Real, Indiana Statement of Support] http://advocates.ppin.org/documents/gri_support_statement.pdf
The Unitarian Universalist Association has been a long-time advocate of what “Get Real, Indiana!” follows as their mission statement. We teach sexuality education in our congregations through the program Our Whole Lives, which helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. The UUA views access to sexuality education as an issue of justice. It is our religious faiths and values that compel us to support justice and equity for people of all genders, races, backgrounds, income levels, abilities, and sexual orientations. The UUCFW has agreed to join the efforts of the “Get Real, Indiana!” coalition to support the need to provide the youth of Indiana with comprehensive sexuality education. By joining in this campaign we acknowledge our UU principals of affirmation, justice, and respect.
